A closing off and award ceremony was held at the Medupi Power Station site following the close of the 3 week winter career expo. The ceremony was attended by traditional leaders, learners, educators, Eskom management and Eskom representatives.

The programme of the day was filled with a line of speakers to motivate the learners to keep aiming higher. Medupi Project Financial Manager Motsumi Moeketsane delivered a motivational speech and presented it in a way that the learners understood. Moeketsane said that there are two words which are killers of dreams and that is ‘instant gratification’. “In Medupi, we believe in you, we believe that you can achieve your dreams. You need to be patient so that you can reach where you are going”, said Moeketsane.

Chief Shongoane was also amongst the speakers and he emphasised that they want to lead educated people as traditional leaders. “Education will take you to a better place. You are never too old to learn. Let us respect our elders and our parents”, said Chief Shongoane. Chief Shongoane added that parents must participate in making sure that their children are educated.

The learners’ mentors who are Eskom employees awarded prizes to learners who performed the best during the programme. All learners were awarded attendance certificates by Medupi Project Senior Construction Manager Zandi Shange. The ceremony was filled with cheers and excitement as the learners rendered some entertainment items throughout the programme. The day was ended off with a two course meal.
