Lephalale Police have re-arrested a murder suspect who escaped from lawful custody yesterday morning. The suspect, Petrus Moyo was arrested while busy trying to commit a house breaking near Lephalale Mall.
The awaiting trial prisoner was caught after the police launched a massive manhunt after he escaped from the Lephalale Police Station holding cells.
This escapee aged, 27 years old was arrested for the killing of Dr Werner Emslie and injuring his wife during a farm attack in September 2017.
He appeared before the Lephalale Magistrate Court on the 2017-11-13 and his cases were postponed until the 2017-12-14 for further Police investigations with no bail.
The arrest of this escapee emanated from an incident which occurred on the 20-09-2017 at about 20:00, where Dr Werner Emslie aged 55 was sitting outside the house on his farm at Afguns outside Lephalale when four unknown men, two armed with pistols (hand guns) attacked and shot him to death and further shot his 55 year old wife. She survived the attack with serious injuries and was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment.
During this incident, the suspects took two hand guns (pistols) and drove away with Dr Emslie’s white Toyota double cub bakkie. The vehicle was later found abandoned a distance away from this house.
Following this incident, a manhunt by a dedicated Police Task Team composed of various Police Units ensued, until he was arrested on Wednesday of 2017-10-18 at Frankfort in the Free State Province.
Moyo was charged with murder, house breaking, theft and illegal immigration.
